Hampstead House
A corner building in Hampstead, only built in 2008, was rearranged to suit the needs of a repeat client and their growing family. The existing floor plan was divided up with a non-descript central staircase, and included a disconnected ground floor front kitchen where the family planned on spending most of their time.
We moved the kitchen to the rear lower ground to connect directly to the garden, added a glass extension for a dining space, along with a double height void (with 7m high sliding sash window) to connect to an upper floor living room. Suddenly all the key rooms were connected and enhanced, with the old kitchen space transformed into a gym and study.
To the centre of the plan, the existing stair was re-worked to create a dramatic 4-storey opening top to bottom, while new balustrading and a bespoke chandelier completed the appearance.
AtelierWest we also responsible for all exterior landscaping, dealing with a challenging retaining wall structure, and using a variety of materials and cast concrete techniques.
